My Diet Start Tomorrow--A Novel

Laurel Handfield

A fresh and funny take on the perils of dating from a gifted new African American writer.

Monica is a girl whose standards have hit rock bottom.  Having dated so many losers, she doesn't even care that her latest, Mark, has some baggage--baggage that has a name and face and harasses her every chance she gets.  But hey, everyone has a few skeletons in the closet, right?  Could he be the one, imperfections aside?  Will she bother to press the issue?  Should she just bolt for the door and forget the whole thing?   Before she can decide, things get complicated when she meets a guy who encompasses everything she looks for in a man.  There's just one problem: he lives in another country.

In this exciting first novel, Laurel Handfield deftly captures the moments of humor, frustration, hope, and uncertainty that are inevitable parts of every new relationship.  Sarcastic, heartwarming, and always entertaining, My Diet Starts Tomorrow will appeal to anyone who's been knocked down by the dating scene--only to get right back up and into it again.

Laurel Handfield

Philadelphia born writer, Laurel Handfield has been writing since the age of nine when she used to create plays based upon Archie comics for the other children in the neighborhood to perform.  She is the third of four children born to Bobby Lee and Janet  Laverne Whitaker.  Her father is a retired college professor and her mother, a retired Word Processor for a large corporation in Pennsylvania.

With a Degree in Marketing obtained in 1992, Laurel continued writing as a hobby and pursued her career in Corporate America for several years before leaving the Corporate world and deciding to write full-time.

In the year 2000, she married her husband, Cornelius Handfield, who was born and raised in the Bahamas.  Eventually, they decided to live there permanently and in 2002 they were blessed with their daughter, Savannah.

She began her first novel in 1998 with no real intentions of getting it published.  Upon moving to Freeport Bahamas, a decision was made to finish the book and get it published on the insistence of her family and friends who had read the first few completed chapters.

Now living in the sunny and beautiful Bahamas with her husband and daughter, she has completed her first novel, “My Diet Starts Tomorrow,” and her second novel, Mirror Mirror.
